-New Methodist Church:
During the past week, a quantity of lumber has been landed at Back Harbor Hill, for the purpose of commencing the erection of a new Methodist Church, which, we understand, will take place shortly.

-A Heavy Sea:
In consequence of the heavy sea which set in on this shore on Sunday last, several small crafts were driven ashore at Bonavista and King's Cove, a part of the wharf and premises of Mrs. Murphy have been destroyed by sea.

At Ship Harbor on Sunday by the Rev. Mr. Sprott, Mr. Michael Edison SR., aged 104 years, to Miss Sophie Theresa Belinda Lawrence, aged 41 years and 6 months, after a courtship of 16 years.

-Court News:
Before Magistrate Berteau Oct. 23rd. Thomas Road refused to do his duty, orders his discharge; he paid costs. 28th. Wm. Samuel Cure, drunk and fighting on the public roads, fined one dollar and costs. J.T. Deep, drunk and fighting, fined one dollar and costs.

David Ginn who had been gunning, happened to see a seal just outside of the point of reach. While in the act of getting it on board, the boat capsized and the occupant was precipitated in the water.

While Mr. John Farthing of Herring Neck was hauling his house one day this week the sticks on which it was sliding collapsed and it fell over a 25 foot cliff on its front side.

Kate Steuart Stirling is the daughter of the much respected Dr. Stirling who also figures among the list of those who have a display at the exhibition.
•  A Prisoner Escapes

The schooner Daisy, belonging to John McCORMICK of Coachmen's Cove, was lost at Black Island Cove. There was a heavy breeze of wind and a big sea at the time. The craft was driven ashore and became a total wreck.

The Shipping News
The steamer Plover, called here on Saturday morning last, en route for St. John's. The following is the list of passengers: Rev. Mr. Whittier, Mr. Gill, McCalm, Dooling, Parnel, Dr. Moody, Mrs. Benson.


Fishery
Mr. W. Rowsell & Sons of Leading Tickles, were successful in hauling 60 quintals of codfish and were expecting to make up about 200 quintals, before the "spurt" was over.


Cricket
We understand that a cricket match will be played on or about Tuesday next, on Back Harbor green, between eleven of the North side and an equal number of the South Side. We are hoping for a good game.


Small Pox
The Small Pox epidemic in Harbor Grace and neighborhood is hoped to be now over. There have been no fresh cases for some time, and the quarantine has been raised on all houses in Island Cove.


Church Repairs
Of the tenders sent in for painting the interior of the roof of St. Peter's Church, that by Mr. Abraham A. Pearce, Jr., was accepted, being the lowest.


Wanted
To hire, a schooner of 30 tons or thereabout, for the season commencing 10th of May, 1892. Information given at Sun office.

Back Harbor School. Wanted immediately, a female teacher for the above school, with at least a 3rd. Grade certificate. Salary offered £30 for the first year. Apply to the Chairman of the Church of England Board, Twillingate.
